The perks of running a big sci-fi site

So I sent Peter Jurasik - Londo Mollari in Babylon 5 - an email, asking if he’d do an interview.

Just got a reply and all looks good to go - which is great!

Got to admit, I feel really excited about this - Babylon 5 was, at it’s height, the greatest science fiction TV series written - it was imaginative, touched on deep themes, and wasn’t afraid to explore religion and politics while trying to be sympathetic to different sides of difficult moral dilemmas.

Londo Mollari - aka Peter Jurasik

And the incessant conflict between characters Londo and G’kar was a key pivot for the unfolding not simply of the overall story, but also for the series character development.

So, in short, I’m quite excited to be able to ask him a few questions. :)

I’ve got a string of interviews already lined up for the chronicles network, but I’ve been really lax on applying them - I’ve sat and chatted with big name authors such as George R R Martin and Raymond E Feist, and they’ve been happy to conduct a formal interview. However, paid work has often overtook me and I’ve left too many of these hanging uncompleted.

So this weekend I’ll contact some of the authors, editors, and artists who’ve previously agreed to do interviews, and get these finished.

Running chronicles has so far been an expensive hobby - AdSense covers only half it’s costs - and I’ve had to give up the writing for the time being because I’m so busy running Britecorp and it’s resources.

I’m still not happy with the site either - there’s plenty of room to expand and make it even more of a site - something not simply big, but pivotal in the genre. I’ve long considered an ecommerce section to provide independent means of funding the site, and is a priority to do this year.

However, at the end of the day, having chronicles helps me feel human - I’m a writer at heart, and I’ve realised a serious need for more human time for myself - as Brian the father, partner, person, and writer.

All the more reason why I need to push on getting these interviews completed - starting with Peter Jurasik.

  1. I also was a big B5 fan, although I would never consider buying all the DVDs and watching again as the time suckage factor is immense.

It was an original and interesting programe. Nothing around like it today.

  2. The way I’ve been watching them is maybe once or twice a week on an evening. Losing yourself in a show is a great way to purge work from your system, especially on a Fri/Sat night. :)

I can’t watch all of them though - started with Season 1 a year ago, and we’re currently onto Season 4 - but this is after the show had peaked and becomes messy. No way I can watch Season 5 - simply a scripting abomination. :)

Shame we’ve not seen similar since, but maybe one day…
