Naked scanner
This is just such a stupid idea:
‘Naked’ scanner in airport trial
A trial of a scanner that produces “naked” images of passengers has begun at Manchester Airport.
The authorities say it will speed up security checks by quickly revealing any concealed weapons or explosives.
But the full body scans will also show up breast enlargements, body piercings and a clear black-and-white outline of passengers’ genitals.
The airport has stressed that the images are not pornographic and will be destroyed straight away.
It’s ludicrous that our politicians set out destructive foreign policy that makes its own citizens less secure (cf the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan and our general fawning towards US policy - we don’t actually have an independent foreign policy).
But what is probably even worse is how we give up our civil liberties like sheep, on the grounds that civil servants who are mostly completely unqualified in what they do, can set and implement government policies that people will blindly follow.
Firstly, the government and private business has repeatedly shown it is incapable of protecting personal details and privacy through a whole string of data thefts and losses over the past few years.
Secondly, you can be guaranteed that the low-wage workers put onto such scanners will eventually start leaking the data, and it won’t be long before we see naked scanner pictures of celebs in the tabloids, and normal people’s online.
Let’s face it, everytime Jordan goes through one of these scanners, some £6 hour security guard will eventually realise these images are probably worth tens of thousands of pounds published in the Sun. Certainly something worth losing your crappy job for.
