Virus exposes paedophile
Funny story this from Security Focus:
A 20-year-old German man turned himself and his child-porn collection into authorities after believing a message propagated by the recent Sober virus that law enforcement officers were investigating his activities
Apparently, the Sober X (aka Sober Y) virus claims to be from a law enforcement agency - the FBI or German equivalent, the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) - which has tracked use of illegal websites. The e-mail then purportedly goes on to demand the user open an attachment to fill a report. When the attachment is opened, the virus propagates.
The story claim of a paedophile turning themselves in because of it is interesting, but could be better to see the Snopes verdict in time.
Meanwhile, regardless of whether true or urban myth, in the spirit of Christmas: “Ho ho ho!”. :)
