40 Best Web Directories

Bob Mutch has turned himself into something of a directory specialist, and has been developing evaluated lists of directories for some time now.

He’s just changed his system of appraisal.

Rather than use figures such as PageRank and link volume to determine quality, he’s now set up a list of directories valued according to basic “trust” factors likely important for Google.

Links from DMOZ, .edu, and .gov sites, now form a core scoring system to create his own list of the Best 40 Web Directories.

While his scoring system is bound to raise discussion, I think it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

I stated that before Bob even realised he’d forgotten to appraise the Platinax Directory, which is now ranked number 30 in the list.

If you’re interested in finding out whether you have accredited universities and colleges linking to your site, or even government websites, use the following parameters in Yahoo! Search for your own domain name:

linkdomain:domain.com +site:gov
linkdomain:domain.com +site:edu (US educational)
linkdomain:domain.com +site:ac.uk (UK educational)

  1. I added the number of docs in Google index and noted some sites that had all the same Meta descriptions. I am considering rating the sites on site wides, editoral content, and keyword title stuffing.

I hired a full time coder in .ph to work on the internet based ILQ tool, IE ILQ Toolbar, and FF ILQ extention.
