Using SEO to fight scams
I had someone turn up at Platinax, warm themselves up to members - and then invite others to be “mentored” by him - by paying $1k to join what appears by all accounts to be a pyramid scheme.
The scheme is entirely based on reselling rights to resell rights for a bunch of junk ebooks and/or software. Nowhere online does anyone in this scheme talk about the products - it’s all about marketing resell rights to other people and living off the income.
Yes - new signups have to give their first few sales to the person who signed them up. They call themselves “internet marketing consultants” and target those looking for easy cash. It’s a pyramidal MLM campaign.
So after a second forum of mine was hit by these low-life scum, I thought I’d run a little test by throwing a few links to a warning about this scheme.
Funnily enough, none of these “internet marketing consultants” who exist solely to join people to a scheme involving reselling rights to resell - appear to know anything about SEO.
Or at least, how to use links for SEO. :)
So now after a couple of weeks and minimal effort, the warning page is now ranking 2nd on Google for the scheme’s own name.
I’ve used SEO to raise the profile of consumer complaints before - but never to fight a scam. Will be interesting how this one turns out. :)
