British Telecom just doesn’t get it

I received bills from BT to pay my business line and business broadband services.

Telephone support warned of long delays in answering the phone, but mentioned paying online.

Ok, so I signed up at BT’s website to pay both online, set up a user account, set up my billing accounts for both services, then went to pay.

Oops. BT says it can’t take payments by credit card.

WTF??

This is the 21st century, but the UK’s largest telecom’s operator won’t take credit card payments online?

Thanks for wasting 20 minutes of my time signing up.

So, I resigned myself to paying over the phone.

A few minutes later: “I’m sorry, BT payments is not available at this time.”

British Telecom are a pretty lame company when it comes to customer services.

I’ve already had very poor experiences of them previous, such as:

- when they cust off my business broadband after they set up the wrong billing address,
- twice threatened court action over bills that didn’t exist,
- and then when I moved house, failed to connect the broadband service for two weeks.

I felt that I had little choice but go with BT when I moved, but they really aren’t worth the time.

No matter how much hassle it may seem in future to go with other providers, I know it can’t ever be as bad as BT services - because not only have they repeatedly almost crippled my business, they still continue to waste my time.

And I have better things to do than chase a billion dollar corporation into the 21st century.

ADDED: Okay, after the website telling me BT don’t accept credit card payments, after being prompted by email to pay my bills, I find I can actually pay by email. Hm…typical BT - the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

  1. I am livid with BT’s customer service dept oops, I don’t think they have one and I have been reliably informed by them that they do’nt have a complaints department either, although I have spoken to that department frequently over the last 3 months regarding bills they have sent me claiming payments for which they have no legal right to. I have also spoken as often to the Billing department. I am appalled at the imcompetence of such a large company. I have been lied to on most occasions, they are at most of the time arrogent and self rightious and/or patronising. My issues are still not resolved BT owes me money but again won’t admit it. I feel convinced now that I have no where to go but court. So I agree wholeheartedly with the previous complainants.
