Soliciting interviews - and rejecting the results

The promo side of an IPTV company badgered me for ages with an invite for me to email interview them for one of my news sites.

Eventually, late at night, I composed a series of questions about their business and how it relates to the modern internet - and finally received a response last night, answered by their CEO.

I bounced it straight back to their promotions dept as unsuitable, and asked for the original questions to be pitched at the company founder, whom I’m given the impression is the visionary behind the company, rather than a corporate face.

I mean, if you ask an IPTV company about how they relate to issues such as net neutrality and user generated content, and you get a simple response that these are “outside of their area”, something is wrong with the interview.

I surf the net and see big names provide insight and commentary on net developments, and how they feel these may affect not just their own companies, but also the internet consumer they all rely upon.

If a company is only willing to talk about themselves as if they exist outside of the internet, then perhaps an interview for the internet just isn’t going to work for them.
