Finding a News Voice
Finding a news voice has been hard.
When I first set up Platinax, I knew I wanted a news section.
Why?
Simple - I know a lot of small businesses in the UK want news about the internet and business, and how it may affect them, but most business news sources simply focus on corporate news.
So I created a section to cover internet and business news that may be of interest to SME’s.
Deciding on a voice has been a challenge.
At first, I tried the blogger approach. But it was just blogging about news, rather than news itself. And I already had a blog here for personal comment anyway.
Then I tried the “objective standard”. While that’s great for providing information, it read as dull and lifeless.
So recently I noticed that press that aims for an objective standard repeatedly fails to state how that news story may affect its target readership.
I realised I should therefore provide the basic information - then add something explaining how that news may affect small business online.
It seems to be working for the moment: Platinax News.
Just in time as well - it looks as though Google News has accepted it as one of its media sources: Platinax on Google News
Feeling good about how this is moving. :)
