Web 2.0 - clueless about consumers
Unbelievable - people in Silicon Valley, who are firmly behind the development and promotion of Web 2.0 start-ups, don’t even realise that normal people use search engines.
The thing I’m noticing is that outside the valley most people use search engines to find things. Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc.
Talk about living in a bubble - and these are the people who think they can churn out the net’s next great things - and yet they don’t even have a clue about target consumer behaviour?

Brian: I have no reason to defend Scoble, nor do I read what he has to say on a regular basis.
But, I think you might have mis-comprehended what he was trying to get across. I think he was meaning that people type the domain name into the search bar of the search engine rather than the address bar of their browser.
Regardless, I think there is a Web 2.0 bubble, and a “business blog bubble” as well. I think there is a good number of people blogging online about how businesses should blog, but very few of them are actually using blogs to build real businesses. They are just generating hype and talking among themsleves. And probably laughing wildly all the way to the bank with their book sales and VC paychecks.
I just ignore the bubble boys and focus on helping small businesses succeed online in my little corner of America.

Indeed, I’ve nothing particularly against Scoble - but it’s pretty amazing when one of the key behaviours of the internet is only discovered *after* the wave of business start-ups have been engaged.

[…] Ultimately, Platinax is intended to bring an Open Source mentality to business. Working with the internet is challenging. Many small businesses have problems dealing with it - everything from web hosting to development and marketing issues. Even corporations can’t even understand it. […]
